General Casey must go

Nov 13, 2009 -- 12:45pm

This is a direct quote of Gen. Casey, “Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.”

If you break that statement down Gen. Casey is clearly saying that he feels diversity in the military is more important than the "horrific tragedy", the 13 lives. I, too, believe that diversity is a very important aspect in the military as it is in the fabric of this great country. 300 million people from every religion, race, and corner of the world have combined to make this country the greatest country in the world. But, to say that he believes diversity is more important than the lives of our soldiers and citizens? Absolutely not!

You can offer diversity and still maintain the law and honor. Diversity is not a substitute for it. Diversity means that you will accept the hard work and good will of all others willing to share it. It does not mean you have to turn a blind eye toward terrorism to prove you are not anti Muslim. I take people of face value but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stand there an allow someone to strike me with impunity. If General Casey does not understand that he is responsible for the safety of his troops…he must leave!

Hartford - unintended consequences

Nov 11, 2009 -- 1:59pm
Posted by Rusty in Southington

Hartford is a perfect example of “unintended consequences for good intentions” and the “welfare state”. Since the sixties, the liberal government felt the need to give more money to those who didn’t have it, instead of working on policies to make the disadvantaged more self-sufficient. By giving people money for nothing, it became worthless and expected from then on.

The unintended consequence to that policy was to destroy the recipient’s family structure for a whole class of people. The government rewards the young girls to have more and more children out of wedlock. The government pays for the girls not to marry the fathers. Then the government pays the girls to feed and clothe the babies. Then, when the government finds out the girls are too young and irresponsible to feed and clothe their babies, the government takes over feeding and clothing the babies with whole new bureaucracies. Oh, and they never cut back on the original payments as in the original feeding and clothing the babies. Just maybe it would be more cost efficient to properly teach or some other type of intervention for the care of these babies.

Good intentions are doing more harm by building an ever-expanding welfare state. The unintended consequence of these policies is more fatherless families with more and more children having children. The natural need for structure in their lives for the human being is filled by the gang system. The boys and young men join gangs to fill the void of not having a father and learn the wrong way to treat women. The other unintended consequence is to bankrupt the city and state budgets by paying more welfare and also financing the criminal system from more cops on the beat, the court system, and including the expanding prison system.

If Hartford is going to be serious about solving its problems, they first must reform welfare from the core. Instead of paying the girls NOT to marry the fathers, the system must encourage a two-parent family. If the girls are unable to feed and care for their babies – take them away. There are thousands of families who want and are able to care for those babies on their own without the state footing the bill. It is ridiculous to keep layering the welfare bureaucracies and paying for the same service multiple times. The money in the city and state budgets are not there any longer.

Then, the government must revamp the tax system starting by lowering all taxes. That is the first step in bringing business back to Hartford/Connecticut. More jobs will fill the void of welfare payments and will give the recipients a feeling a thousand times better by receiving a paycheck rather than a welfare check. When people are working they have less time to get themselves into trouble and they will have a much higher self-worth image. It wouldn’t hurt to instill a negative image of having a child out of wedlock again. I’m sure it won’t stop all of the kids having sex but it will make the girl think about the consequences and maybe use protection.

This is not a complete answer but I believe it is a starting point.

The H1N1 Circle of Confusion

Oct 26, 2009 -- 8:16pm

I called my physician today to inquire about getting the H1N1 vaccine. I was told that they did not receive any vaccines, and to contact my local health department. I then called my local East Hartford health department. The gentleman told me that they had not received any vaccines and he instructed me to call 1-800-830-9426, the number for the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health Flu hotline. In a recorded message, the hotline instructed me to "contact my personal physician or local health department". I guess I'll just wash my hands, cough in my sleeve and pray for spring to come soon....

Have a great flu season!

A Solution to the Connecticut Tax Problem

Aug 03, 2009 -- 7:52pm

I have come up with a valid solution to the Connecticut tax problem and I sent this to the Governor but no reply yet so I wanted it out on the airwaves.  Just raise the tax on all of the non-resident income tax people that are currently taking advantage of working in Connecticut but paying lower taxes than their home state.  This is taking away millions of dollars in potential tax revenues and giving it away to the surrounding states.  The non-resident tax payers end up paying this extra tax anyway so they would not be affected by the increase in the Connecticut Income tax for just non-residents.  The Connecticut tax payers would avoid a tax increase and be very happy.   It would help pay for the additional services that the non-residents are now using in Connecticut such as the infrastructure of roads and police protection.  It would avoid increases in corporate taxes and help keep companies, the money they spend and the jobs in Connecticut.  It would even help the real estate market in Connecticut when people from out of state realize they could reduce their taxes by moving to Connecticut.  Even an additional 1% of tax on this non-resident income ( raise the current 3% to 4% and the 5% to 6%) would be a huge amount of money and may erase at least most of the current shortfall.  This solution is a win-win for Connecticut that would not hurt those employed in Connecticut and would really bring economic parity to Connecticut compared to the surrounding states that currently charge a much higher income tax.  -Doctor Don-

Tax Breaks for Movie Companies

Jun 16, 2009 -- 6:38pm

Subject: survey

hi,

I am surprised that the majority wants to stop giving tax credits for movie companies.  I want the tax breaks to bring in the business which will carry down to the town. I live in South Windsor and we have agreed to sell property to a movie company who wants to build here.  I think it would bring in a lot of business, hotels, restaurants, etc, small business, general contracting, etc.  Am I missing something?

The Inner City Voter is a Patsy to Liberal Politicians

May 07, 2009 -- 10:38am

I heard a gentleman from Hartford call Dan's show today, and he tried to make the point that if it were not for Welfare and the selling of illegal drugs on the streets, inner city folks would have no source of income.  Dan asked the caller, "What do you think should be done to solve the problem?".  Silence on the other end.....  The inner city voter has been hoodwinked for so long by liberal politicians, that they can't even muster up the strength to think for themselves.  It's not their fault.  They have been conditioned to be dependant on the Government, and the scary thing is - many don't even realize it!

President Obama recently sought to end a 6 year school voucher program in Washington D.C., under pressure from the NEA public teachers union.  Poor families could send their children to better performing private and parochial schools with a $7,500 annual voucher under this program.  The positive result was an embarrasment to the underperforming D.C. public schools.  When the community got wind of the President's plan to end the school voucher program, they spoke out.  Obama backpeddled and found a way to please the community and the NEA, or did he?

Obama now proposes to permit all of the children who currently partake in the school voucher program to graduate.  After that, poor families in D.C. will once again be at the mercy of one of the worst public school systems in the country to teach their children.  Way to go, Mr. President.

The sad thing is, liberal politicians who rely on the inner city vote to get elected, have no interest in helping people to help themselves.  Rather, they wish to keep people surpressed and dependant on the Government.
